The maison's signature one-of-one. A belted-flap purse in white-belly Himalayan crocodile, with a top handle milled from a single billet of solid 14k gold and a maison logo cast in solid 18k gold. There is no zip — the flap is held closed by a single leather belt that runs the width of the body and buckles at the centre, in the manner of the original 1920s travel cases from which the silhouette is drawn. CITES-certified. Each piece is registered to the original owner and built to that owner's hand measurement for the handle radius.

L'Alexi is the maison's most considered piece. It is built only on commission, only twelve times per year, and only after a hand-fitting consultation in which the handle radius is shaped to the original owner's grip. The silhouette is drawn from the rigid travel cases of the 1920s — a flat trapezoid with a deep, square bottom and a closing flap held by a single belt — and rendered in a skin and a metal that, between them, account for nearly half the price of the piece.

The handle is the central commission. It is milled from a single billet of solid 14k gold — gold at this size is structural, not decorative — and weighs approximately 180 grams. The maison logo on the front face is solid 18k gold, set into the crocodile in a recessed bezel. The belt is cut from a contrasting matched skin, run through three keepers, and buckled at the centre with a 14k gold tongue and 18k gold plate.

Himalayan crocodile is the rarest grade of white-belly Niloticus. The atelier accepts only Top 1 skins, hand-graded for the alpine gradient — pale cream at the centre, fading to soft grey at the scale edges — and CITES-certified. Each L'Alexi is cut from a single skin, matched at the seams, with the belly panels reserved for the most visible front face.

Read more about the Himalayan grade in the Mythic tier of the Leather Compendium. Each L'Alexi commission is registered with CITES under a permit naming the original owner.

The handle is the rarest specification in the maison. It is milled from a single billet of 14k gold — chosen over 18k for slightly greater hardness at this volume — and finished by hand at the bench. The maison logo and the belt-buckle plate are 18k gold, cast and finished separately. The total mass of gold per piece is approximately 215 grams. All gold elements are warranted indefinitely. Each piece carries an individual hallmark struck inside the flap.

L'Alexi is a piece that is intended for ceremonial wear, not daily carry. The crocodile is robust at the scale and delicate at the white-belly seams. Wipe with a dry cloth only; never wet, never solvent. The annual conditioning is performed at the atelier at no cost to the original owner. Store the piece in its case, lying flat, with the handle supported by the included gold-handle pillow.

All ATELIER ZEN-Ō pieces carry a lifetime atelier care guarantee — re-edging, re-stitching, hardware replacement, and full restoration are performed at the studio at no additional cost for the original owner. Inquire at info@atelierzeno.com.

Each piece leaves the atelier in a presentation that is itself a small piece of work — assembled by hand, sealed by hand, and intended to be kept by the owner alongside the piece it carries.

L'Alexi is built from start to finish at the atelier in the United States, by the maison's senior artisan, in consultation with the original owner. The skin is selected in private appointment; the handle is fitted to the owner's hand at a follow-up appointment; the piece is delivered three to six months later. Production is strictly limited to twelve pieces per year. Each piece is one-of-one in lining colour, belt match, and serial number.

The story of the maison's origin, including the four-pointed mark that gives the house its name, is told in Issue Nº 02 of the journal.
