Le Crocodile
Porosus Crocodile · Slim Cardholder · 6 slots · CITES-certified
Le Crocodile is the slim Esquisse cardholder, redrawn in the most precious leather the atelier works with: Crocodylus porosus, the saltwater crocodile, sourced exclusively from CITES-certified, audited farms in Northern Australia and Papua New Guinea.
Porosus is the smallest-scaled and most uniformly tiled of the three commercial crocodilian species (porosus, niloticus, and the alligator Mississippiensis); the belly tiles, where this piece is cut from, fall in regular squares whose central row marks the spine of the wallet. A single hide yields, on average, two cardholders. The selection of the cut, the matching of the central row, and the hand-cutting are all performed by the same artisan who finishes the piece. Suede-lined. Hand-saddle-stitched. The solid 18k gold mark is recessed at the lower right of the inside spine.

All porosus skins worked at ATELIER ZEN-Ō are sourced exclusively from CITES Appendix II / Appendix I farms in Northern Australia and Papua New Guinea, audited annually for animal welfare and environmental management. Each piece ships with its own CITES certificate, personalised to the owner. International shipment requires CITES re-export documentation, which the atelier prepares on the buyer's behalf.
The maison's position on exotic leathers is straightforward: we work with farmed porosus only, never wild-take; we use the entire useable hide (belly, hornback, flanks, and tail-tip) across the small-leather and accessory range; and we accept no commission whose provenance cannot be documented from hatchling to finished piece. More on our exotic-leather sourcing in the Leather Guide.
Porosus is, by industry consensus, the finest crocodilian leather available. It is distinguished by its small, regular, square belly tiles (typically 14–18 across the central row of a finished bag), its uniform thickness, and its capacity to take a high glaze without losing the depth of the natural scale shadows. Read more about porosus in our Legendary tier.
Where the more common Nile crocodile (niloticus) presents a wider, less regular tile pattern and a slightly more pronounced ridge, porosus reads, when finished, as a single coherent surface — the reason the major maisons reserve it for their highest-tier pieces, and the reason ATELIER ZEN-Ō works exclusively in porosus across the exotic line.
Crocodile leather is more delicate than full-grain calfskin. Avoid water exposure, prolonged sunlight, and contact with synthetic fibers (which can dull the glaze over years). Wipe with a soft dry cloth only. Do not condition at home; once a year, send the piece to the atelier for inspection and re-finishing — both included in the lifetime atelier care guarantee.
Re-stitching, scale-resetting, and full re-glazing are performed at the studio at no additional cost for the original owner. Inquire at info@atelierzeno.com.
Each piece leaves the atelier in a presentation that is itself a small piece of work — assembled by hand, sealed by hand, and intended to be kept by the owner alongside the piece it carries.

Domestic shipping within the United States is sent signed, priority, and fully tracked, with insurance and signature on delivery. Overnight and 1–2 day expedited transport are available upon request, quoted at confirmation. International shipping is arranged individually, with full CITES re-export documentation prepared by the atelier on the buyer's behalf. Each piece ships in the atelier's full presentation packaging — see the Atelier Packaging section above for what is included.
Exotic-leather pieces are non-returnable due to the bespoke nature of the cut and CITES documentation, but are covered for life by the atelier care guarantee. Inquiries: info@atelierzeno.com.
Each Le Crocodile piece is hand-built by a single exotic-leather artisan, beginning with the selection and matching of the belly panel and ending with the final glaze. Production at this tier is intentionally limited; the atelier works fewer than thirty porosus pieces per year across the entire collection.
The story of the maison's origin, including the four-pointed mark that appears on every piece, is told in Issue Nº 02 of the journal.
